Leo Farmer

Partner 

Leo is a Partner in the firm's Commercial Practice group and provides advice on general commercial and civil matters for both private and public-sector clients.

He appears regularly for both plaintiffs and defendants in the civil jurisdiction of the High Court.

Leo has particular expertise in shareholder disputes under s174 Companies Act 1993, the Fair Trading Act 1986, joint-venture and contractual disputes, and Estates and Trusts proceedings.

Leo has extensive experience in relation to cartel proceedings brought by the Commerce Commission, including providing advice to the Commission in the course of its investigations into allegations of price-fixing.

Acted in a successful preliminary hearing to establish the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts for pecuniary penalties against eight major global airlines for price-fixing (Commerce Commission v Air New Zealand Ltd & Ors).

Acted in a successful claim for a declaration that a leading New Zealand bank had misled rural customers in relation to their marketing, promotion and sale of interest rate swaps (Commerce Commission v ANZ Bank New Zealand Limited).
