Kate has particular expertise in regulatory and public litigation, including providing advice and assistance on the establishment and implementation of regulatory change processes. Kate has acted for regulators including the New Zealand Transport Agency and New Zealand Commerce Commission.

Kate prosecutes serious crime in District Court and High Court jury trials under the Crown warrant, and has also conducted prosecutions on behalf of the Department of Corrections and the Department of Conservation, and obtained orders to extradite persons to and from New Zealand.

Kate first joined Meredith Connell in 2009 and worked for Meredith Connell for approximately five years, before moving overseas. Kate practiced in London for three years, firstly in civil litigation in private practice, before moving to the Public Law Litigation team of the Government Legal Department (United Kingdom). Kate returned to Meredith Connell in April 2018.

  • Advised the New Zealand Transport Agency on wide-ranging regulatory matters.

  • Advised the Commerce Commission on cases involving price fixing and other anti-competitive conduct, including Kuehne + Nagel International AG v Commerce Commission and Slingshot and Power Marketing Limited v Commerce Commission.
  • Prosecuted jury trials in the District Court and High Court, including prosecutions for murder, manslaughter, methamphetamine manufacture and sexual offending.
  • Conducted litigation for the Treasury Solicitor on behalf of the Secretary of State in various immigration and refugee matters (United Kingdom).
